About the Artist

Born in lovely, but flat-as-a-pancake Holland, Anneke (aka Mayo) moved to Surrey, England in her teens, and continued her nomadic life around the South East and West of England, before skipping abroad to Geneva, and then returning two years later to a different part of Surrey, then Somerset, and back to her beloved Devon. Even after her two year stint in stunning Switzerland, she remains in awe of the British landscape, its coastlines, and its people; so polite - no other nation queues the way the Brits do.

Anneke’s artistic skills were honed under the expert guidance of international artist and great friend Rosa Tuffney. Specialising in oil paintings of coastlines, pencil portraits and sensual art in pastels, Anneke can produce a wide variety of pictures to be enjoyed for many years to come.

Anneke has produced some beautiful pencil and pastel pictures for a book by a well-published author, who in 2012 reached no. 6 in the Amazon Kindle chart, and who has recently appeared in the Independent and in popular women's magazines.  Anneke also had two exclusive sensual art exhibitions on the Portobello Road, London during April and May 2011, and an exhibition at Crediton Library during April 2012.

Just as the wave cannot exist for itself, but is ever part of the heaving surface of the ocean, so must I never live my life for itself, but always in the experience which is going on around me ~ Albert Schweizer
